I Am a Cat
I am a cat, soft and sweet
I curl around your legs as you sit
Concrete cool as I lay
Purring as your small hands pet me
The night is long, cold and painful
I cry and cry
And you cry too
A stranger's gentle hands stroke me
A gentle poke
You are there
The last one I see
I am a cat
Small and young
I am skiddish
And at times mean
My big eyes never leave you
You love me
I travel far with you
You come see me less
But when you're here
You love me so much
You were not there when I close my eyes
But I hear your anguish even on the other side
I am a cat
Newborn and helpless
I am at your mercy
And you are so kind
Warmth is all I know
Your steady hands as I feed
I am wild and rambunctious
I attack toes
And sometimes pee
You two are my greatest family
I start to feel sick
You and mom try to get me to eat
I grow weak
I am bundled up and rushed
Somewhere
I don't know what's happening
But your hands never leave me
I am safe in your hands
I am a cat
Tiny and hurt
A horrible wound in my leg
I can't walk
But you clean me
You are so gentle
Every day I sit
And you clean me
I don't grow much bigger
But I can walk
And play
I'm scruffy and squat
But I'm alive because of you
A storm, a flood
I am outside
You can't come back
But I am strong enough to survive
I am a cat
Beaten and hated
I am beautiful but mean
Unwanted
She helps me
She learns me
And I help her
And you are there, always
You never yell, or hurt
I'd never let you know, but I love the crook of your arm
There is a storm, a flood
I am sick
You can't come back
But I've helped you survive
I am a cat
A queen
I am small, but I am strong
I was lost and you found me
Loved me
And I love you back
I bore litters
Took care of other litters
And took care of you
When you two were sad
And hurt
I was there
I loved you
There is a storm, a flood
You can't come back
I find an island
And you come back
I am saved once more
I am old now
And greying
And I do t like the new cat
But I love you two
And I sometimes play with him
I am a cat
Large and strong
But my soul is small and fragile
You picked me
And I was scared
Men have hurt me
Raised voices, sharp movements
I am fearful
I was hurt before
You have never hurt me
Never hated me
I chewed off my fur
And you still pet me
And whispered to me
And now I know
You will always love me
I've put on weight
My fur is long and thick
And we play
We chase
Even if the old one doesn't like me much
We are all a family
